Reflections on the Performance and Future Prospects

去る3月15日、東京藝術大学国際交流棟3階のコミュニティサロンにて、多言語ミュージカル『The WORLD』のリーディングワークショップを開催いたしました。平日の開催にもかかわらず、ご来場くださった皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。 On March 15th, we held a reading workshop for the multilingual musical "The WORLD" at the Community Salon on the 3rd floor of the International Exchange Building at Tokyo University of the Arts. Despite it being a weekday, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the event.

窓から差し込む陽光が少しずつ移ろい、夕闇が空間を包み込んでいく中、出演者たちの織りなす言葉と音楽が、私たちを異なる文化が交差する"The WORLD"へと誘っていきました。終演後のアンケートでは、「言葉の壁を超えて、人と人とが響き合おうとする姿に勇気をもらった」「最後の歌で、言葉は同じなのに音律がずれてハモるところに、多言語コミュニケーションの本質を感じた」など、観客の皆様から示唆に富むご感想を数多くいただきました。 As the sunlight gradually shifted through the windows and twilight enveloped the space, the words and music woven by the performers transported us to "The WORLD" where different cultures intersect. In the post-performance questionnaire, we received many insightful comments from the audience, such as "I was encouraged by the sight of people trying to connect with each other beyond language barriers" and "In the final song, I felt the essence of multilingual communication in the way the words were the same, but the tones diverged and harmonized."

ワークショップ後にはチームメンバーと参加者との対話の場を設けました。多様なバックグラウンドを持つ人々が集い、互いの言葉に真摯に耳を傾ける── その場で行われた濃密な対話は、多文化共生の未来図を示唆するものだったと思います。
After the workshop, we provided an opportunity for dialogue between team members and participants. The intense dialogue that took place there, where people with diverse backgrounds gathered and listened sincerely to each other's words, suggested a future vision of multicultural coexistence.

今回の上演では、言語間のバランスや多言語の持つ意味について、まだ十分に掘り下げられていない部分があったかもしれません。皆様からは「英語以外の言語をもっと聞きたい」「言語の持つ身体性や文化、思考の差異を体験させてほしい」など、多言語表現の可能性を広げるアイデアもいただきました。皆様のご意見は、言語の多様性を生かした表現を模索する私たちにとって、かけがえのない励みとなりました。8月の本公演に向けて、言語と文化の多様性をいかに作品に反映するかを考える上で、大いに参考にさせていただきます。 In this performance, we may not have been able to fully explore the balance between languages and the meaning of multilingualism. We also received ideas from the audience to expand the possibilities of multilingual expression, such as "I want to hear more languages other than English" and "I want to experience the physicality, culture, and differences in thought that languages possess." Your opinions are an invaluable encouragement for us as we seek to express the diversity of languages. As we look ahead to the main performance in August, we will take your feedback into serious consideration when thinking about how to reflect the diversity of languages and cultures in our work.

本作の意義と可能性
The Significance and Potential of This Work

本作は、私たちが生きるこの時代に切実に問いかけます。言語の違いを乗り越え、他者を受け入れ、ともに生きる── それはどのようにして可能なのでしょうか。オリジナルの脚本はノンネイティブ英語で書かれ、移民経験を持つ全員のチームによって、パフォーマー自らの経験を多言語で織り交ぜながら作り上げられました。移民の視点から紡がれるこの物語が、観る者一人ひとりの胸に多文化の価値を深く刻んでくれることを願っています。 This work poses a pressing question to the times we live in. How is it possible to overcome language differences, accept others, and live together? The original script was written in non-native English and created by a team of immigrants, interweaving their own experiences in multiple languages. We hope that this story, woven from the perspective of immigrants, will deeply engrave the value of multiculturalism in the hearts of each viewer.

次なるステージへ
Moving to the Next Stage

8月の本公演では、今回のリーディングでいただいたご意見を糧に、よりパワフルに深化した作品世界を目指します。多言語で織り成す人間ドラマをお届けすべく、脚本・演出・音楽などあらゆる面において創意工夫を重ねてまいります。言語も文化も超えて他者を思いやる心を育む本作の役割は小さくないと考えております。回を重ねるごとに作品を成長させ、観客の皆様に心揺さぶられる体験をお届けできるよう、精進してまいります。In the main performance in August, we aim to create a more powerfully evolved world of the work, nourished by the opinions we received in this reading. We will continue to devise creative solutions in all aspects, including the script, direction, and music, to deliver a human drama woven in multiple languages. We believe that the role of this work in fostering a spirit of empathy for others, transcending language and culture, is not small. We will strive to grow the work with each performance and deliver a heart-stirring experience to our audience.

この作品はまだ生まれたばかりの「種」のようなものですが、皆様から頂戴したご意見を大切に育んでいく所存です。多言語·多文化共生の意義を、ともに見つめ直す時間を持てましたこと、心より御礼申し上げます。引き続きご支援のほど、よろしくお願い申し上げます。This work is still like a newborn "seed," but we intend to cherish and nurture the opinions we have received from you.
